| Welcome to our web site. We hope you enjoy browsing these pages and you find what you are looking for.
The City of Lincoln is twinned with Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, which is in the Pfalz region, in the south west of Germany. A group of wine producers got together to establish a House of Wines in Neustadt offering their produce for sale from a central point. This idea proved so successful that it was decided to open a House of Wines in Lincoln and the shop was opened in 1998. After 8 years of successful trading at The Norman House on Steep Hill the House of Wines moved to new premises at 2 Gordon Road, off Bailgate. We have now moved again and have joined up with The German Bier Warehouse located at Waddington. We still sell fine German wines from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse Lincoln’s twin town, these are available online through our website and at our shop. The shop will continue to sell a range of bottled beers and cider from around the world, including Green’s Gluten & Wheat free beers.
We are slowly expanding our range of wines and now have in stock some new wines from Australia, Chile, France, Italy, New Zealand and South Africa. The wines from Australia are the Boston Bay Wines from Port Lincoln, which is another one of Lincoln’s twinning partners. These wines include an award winning Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay. The French wines include Bordeaux and Cotes du Rhone wines; we are also stocking Champagne as well. We try to source our wines from the smaller producers and most of our German wines are exclusive to ourselves.
All of the German wines on offer are produced and bottled by the wine growers themselves and as such are entitled to carry the designation 'Erzeugerabfullung' or 'Gutsabfullung' on the bottle label. The higher the quality of the wine the more distinctive are the differences in grape variety, vintage, vineyard origin and flavour. In addition to this each winemaker leaves his own individual fingerprint on the wine he/she produces. For this reason the 'House of Wines' gives you the unique opportunity to buy and to learn more about the wonderful world and culture of wine. Owners David and Jackie look forward to seeing old and new customers at the new shop, which is open 7 days a week. |
